A profile cast from antique slate, a steel core measured in gauges, and a seven-layer finish engineered for exceptional, long-lasting colour retention. Here is everything beneath the surface.
Every Emmeline roof begins as flat, twenty-six-gauge galvanized steel and ends as a surface that reads, from the street, like an antique slate roof. Between those two states lie a slate-cast profile, a layered metallurgical finish, and a four-sided locking system. Each was chosen for one purpose: to outlast the house it protects. What follows is the roof, examined layer by layer.
The profile was taken from a mould of a genuine antique slate roof, then double-embossed into the steel. The random double embossing work-hardens the metal — stronger than high-tensile steel — and gives a surface that belongs to nature rather than to the 1980s.
A smoother roof betrays every hailstone, branch and footfall. This one is remarkably forgiving — and steel is twice as strong as aluminum to begin with. Twenty-six gauge, measured before its protective layers are added.
The colour you see is the last of seven layers. Beneath it, each does a single job — bond, protect, resist, endure — so the finish resists chalking and fading far longer than ordinary paint.
The WeatherXL crinkle finish is loaded with ceramic pigments that resist ultraviolet light. Below it, the Kynar 500 PVDF fluoropolymer is the most durable coil coating made — the same chemistry trusted on landmark architecture for decades.
Beneath the colour, a G-90 hot-dipped galvanized layer wraps the steel core in zinc on both faces, so the panel is protected from above and below. It will never rust.
Every panel interlocks on all four sides — with hidden tornado clips and with the trims — so the whole roof expands and contracts as one, without ever wiggling a screw loose. There is no strapping, and so no air gap to invite condensation. It is engineering you will never see, doing its work for a lifetime.
The four-sided interlock and concealed clips hold the roof flat against hurricane-force gusts — nothing to catch, nothing to lift.
The top hail rating under UL 2218, fire resistant and pest resistant — and the forgiving embossed surface hides what does strike it.
Reflected heat melts snow and ice and lowers cooling costs; it sheds water rather than holding it, and readily accepts solar.
A science-based, time-tested system engineered to last a lifetime — and warranted for one. It will never rust, and never needs maintenance.
WeatherXL Crinkle Finish with ceramic pigments resists chalking and fading; layered Kynar 500 PVDF fluoropolymer, corrosion-resistant primer and a protective backer coating ensure exceptional colour retention and longevity.
